Protegiendo Nuestro Planeta: El Compromiso de Rotary con el Medio Ambiente

Querida familia rotaria,
Durante este mes, Rotary nos invita a poner especial atención a una causa urgente y vital: el cuidado del medio ambiente. Nuestra labor en esta área no es nueva, pero cada día se vuelve más necesaria. La huella que dejamos en el planeta puede ser de destrucción… o de esperanza. Nosotros, como rotarios, elegimos lo segundo.
En toda Centroamérica, vemos con orgullo cómo nuestros clubes se suman a la causa ambiental con acciones concretas: limpiezas de playas y ríos, programas de reciclaje, educación ambiental y, por supuesto, reforestación. Una de las iniciativas más inspiradoras que estamos impulsando este año es el programa “100 Árboles por Club”, mediante el cual cada club se compromete a plantar al menos 100 árboles al año, con seguimiento para asegurar que crezcan fuertes. Muy pronto compartiremos un formulario de certificación para reconocer formalmente este esfuerzo y visibilizar el impacto colectivo que podemos lograr.
La situación ambiental en nuestra región no puede esperar: los residuos plásticos, las aguas residuales sin tratar, los vertederos colapsados y la deforestación están dañando nuestros ecosistemas, afectando la vida marina y comprometiendo los medios de vida de muchas comunidades. Esto no solo es un tema ecológico, también es una cuestión de justicia social y desarrollo sostenible.
Por eso, quiero invitarles con todo mi entusiasmo a que cada club del Distrito 4240 se convierta en un ejemplo de acción ambiental, trabajando en equipo con sus comunidades, escuelas, municipios y empresas locales. Cada árbol sembrado, cada playa limpia, cada charla educativa, cada iniciativa cuenta.
Les animo a documentar y compartir sus proyectos ambientales, porque cuando uno actúa, inspira… y cuando muchos actúan, transforman. Nuestro compromiso con el planeta no solo se alinea con las áreas de interés de Rotary, sino que también honra nuestro lema: Dar de Sí antes de Pensar en Sí.
Gracias por ser agentes de cambio y por demostrar que la esperanza florece cuando se planta con amor y se cultiva con servicio.

Protecting Our Planet: Rotary’s Commitment to the Environment

Dear Rotary Family,
Throughout this month, Rotary invites us to place special focus on an urgent and vital cause: caring for the environment. Our work in this area is not new, but it is becoming increasingly essential. The mark we leave on the planet can be one of destruction… or of hope. As Rotarians, we choose the latter.
Across Central America, we proudly witness our clubs joining the environmental cause through concrete actions: beach and river cleanups, recycling programs, environmental education, and of course, reforestation. One of the most inspiring initiatives we are promoting this year is the “100 Trees per Club” program, through which each club commits to planting at least 100 trees per year, with follow-up to ensure that they grow strong. Very soon, we will share a certification form to formally recognize this effort and highlight the collective impact we can achieve.
The environmental situation in our region cannot wait: plastic waste, untreated sewage, overflowing landfills, and deforestation are damaging our ecosystems, affecting marine life, and threatening the livelihoods of many communities. This is not only an ecological issue—it is also a matter of social justice and sustainable development.
That is why I wholeheartedly invite every club in District 4240 to become an example of environmental action, working hand in hand with their communities, schools, municipalities, and local businesses. Every tree planted, every beach cleaned, every educational talk, every initiative matters.
I encourage you to document and share your environmental projects, because when one person acts, they inspire… and when many act, they transform. Our commitment to the planet is not only aligned with Rotary’s areas of focus, but it also honors our motto: Service Above Self.
Thank you for being agents of change and for proving that hope flourishes when planted with love and nurtured through service.
