Carta de Domingo:Un Compromiso Rotario con la Erradicación de la Polio
Queridos amigos rotarios,
En el transcurso de mi reciente visita a los clubes de Costa Rica, me llenó de orgullo ver el compromiso palpable de la mayoría de los clubes con una causa que nos une desde hace décadas: la erradicación de la polio. Gracias a su generosidad y visión, hemos logrado que muchos de estos clubes se sumen a la Sociedad Polio Plus, comprometidos a donar $100.00 anuales hasta que la polio sea erradicada de la faz de la tierra.
Este esfuerzo es más que una simple contribución financiera. Es una declaración de principios, un compromiso con la salud pública y con el futuro de millones de niños en todo el mundo. Si bien hemos avanzado enormemente en la lucha contra la polio, todavía existen desafíos significativos. Hoy, más que nunca, debemos redoblar nuestros esfuerzos para garantizar que esta enfermedad sea completamente erradicada.
Uno de los mayores obstáculos que enfrentamos actualmente es el impacto del movimiento antivacunas, que está afectando los programas de vacunación en muchos países. La desinformación y el rechazo a las vacunas no solo ponen en riesgo a los niños de contraer polio, sino que también afectan la administración de otras vacunas esenciales para la salud infantil. Es por ello que nuestro esfuerzo para erradicar la polio no es solo una batalla contra un virus, sino también contra la falta de información que está costando vidas.
Es vital recordar que por cada dólar que donamos a la lucha contra la polio, la Fundación Bill y Melinda Gates lo duplica, multiplicando el impacto de nuestra ayuda. Este apoyo financiero es crucial para continuar las campañas de vacunación y asegurar que todos los niños, sin importar su lugar de nacimiento, estén protegidos contra esta devastadora enfermedad.
El próximo 24 de octubre, conmemoramos el Día Mundial contra la Polio, una oportunidad perfecta para que nuestros clubes realicen actividades que creen conciencia sobre la importancia de erradicar la polio y de mantener las vacunas accesibles para todos. Les animo a organizar eventos, charlas y campañas de recaudación de fondos en sus comunidades. Cada acción cuenta, y juntos podemos garantizar que Rotary cumpla su promesa de ver un mundo libre de polio.
Sigamos comprometidos, no solo en nuestras palabras, sino en nuestras acciones. Estamos en el umbral de la historia, y con su ayuda, lograremos que la polio sea erradicada, asegurando un futuro más saludable y seguro para las generaciones venideras.
Sigamos trabajando juntos para construir un mundo mejor, unidos en servicio, amistad y paz.

Sunday Letter: A Rotary Commitment to Eradicating Polio
Dear Rotarian friends,
During my recent visit to the clubs in Costa Rica, I was filled with pride seeing the clear commitment of the majority of the clubs to a cause that has united us for decades: the eradication of polio. Thanks to your generosity and vision, we have secured the commitment of many of these clubs to join the Polio Plus Society, pledging to donate $100 annually until polio is wiped from the face of the earth.
This effort is more than just a financial contribution. It is a declaration of principles, a commitment to public health, and to the future of millions of children worldwide. While we have made tremendous strides in the fight against polio, significant challenges still remain. Now, more than ever, we must double our efforts to ensure that this disease is completely eradicated.
One of the greatest obstacles we face today is the impact of the anti-vaccine movement, which is affecting vaccination programs in many countries. Misinformation and vaccine rejection not only put children at risk of contracting polio but also hinder the administration of other essential vaccines for child health. This is why our fight to eradicate polio is not only a battle against a virus but also against the lack of information that is costing lives.
It is crucial to remember that for every dollar we donate to the fight against polio, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches it, doubling the impact of our contribution. This financial support is vital to continue vaccination campaigns and ensure that all children, no matter where they are born, are protected against this devastating disease.
On October 24th, we will commemorate World Polio Day, a perfect opportunity for our clubs to organize activities that raise awareness about the importance of eradicating polio and keeping vaccines accessible to all. I encourage you to host events, talks, and fundraising campaigns in your communities. Every action counts, and together we can ensure that Rotary fulfills its promise to see a world free of polio.
Let’s remain committed, not only in words but in deeds. We are on the threshold of history, and with your help, we will achieve the eradication of polio, ensuring a healthier and safer future for generations to come.
Let us continue working together to build a better world, united in service, friendship, and peace.
