Carta de Domingo:La Magia de Rotary en Costa Rica: Una Visita de Servicio, Amistad y Compromiso
Queridos amigos Rotarios del Distrito 4240,
Quiero comenzar esta carta expresando mi más profundo agradecimiento a mis Asistentes de Gobernador Antonio Sabatini, Gabriela Chávez Ulate y Kitty Peralta, quienes coordinaron de manera excepcional la logística, traslados y atenciones durante mi reciente visita a los clubes de Costa Rica. Gracias por su apoyo incondicional y su compromiso con Rotary. Asimismo, agradezco de corazón a mis anfitriones José Luis Pacheco y Marianela Rojas, Gerardo Lorenzen y Aisha Baltodano, y Antonio Sabatini, quienes me recibieron con los brazos abiertos y me hicieron sentir como en casa.
Visitar los clubes rotarios de Costa Rica fue una experiencia enriquecedora, llena de energía y compromiso rotario. Cada club visitado tiene un espíritu único que quiero destacar:
Alajuela me recibió con el entusiasmo de su Club Interact y el deseo de patrocinar más clubes juveniles. Están decididos a fortalecer su Rotaract y a crecer como club. Lamentamos profundamente la partida de su querido compañero Halef Schmitd, quien dedicó gran parte de su vida al servicio de la juventud.
En Belén, fui testigo de una camaradería excepcional y una fuerte unión entre los socios, además de un compromiso firme con los proyectos de paz. Este club está dedicado a apoyar a su Gobernadora para que tenga un año exitoso y lleno de impacto.
Heredia se destacó por sus diversos proyectos, pero sobre todo, por su motivación para aumentar su membresía y seguir creciendo.
En Cartago, la antigua capital de Costa Rica, encontré un lugar mágico lleno de historia, con una nueva historia por escribir: su Centro para niños Autistas. Es un proyecto maravilloso que cambiará vidas.
San Pedro me impresionó con sus iniciativas de recaudación de fondos y los proyectos en Tirrases, que están transformando la vida de cientos de jóvenes en una escuela pública.
Garabito, conocido como el «Club Relax», realiza reuniones al atardecer frente a la playa, donde cada socio se siente libre de desarrollar proyectos en diversas áreas. Es un club vibrante y lleno de energía.
Limón, el pequeño gigante del Caribe, es un club con una tradición sólida y un gran deseo de seguir creciendo y realizando más proyectos de impacto.
San Juan del Murciélago fue el club que más me alimentó 🙂 y me emocionó ver su dedicación a los proyectos de paz, que están cambiando la comunidad hacia una cultura de paz.
La Guaria se destacó como un club con tradición, pero también con grandes proyectos en marcha que prometen transformar su entorno.
Sabana, el benjamín de los clubes de Costa Rica, necesita de nuestro apoyo para crecer y fortalecer sus proyectos. Su juventud tiene el deseo de hacer más y más por su comunidad.
San José, el club decano de Costa Rica, está avanzando con gran fuerza, apoyado por ex Rotaracts, y trabajando en importantes proyectos de agua en diversas comunidades del país.
San José Noreste se destacó como un experto en proyectos con la Fundación Rotaria, con iniciativas de costa a costa y de frontera a frontera, demostrando el verdadero espíritu rotario.
En Puntarenas, la perla del Pacífico, me encontré con un club lleno de tradición que pronto celebrará 80 años de existencia. Con una mezcla de jóvenes y adultos, este club tiene un gran potencial de crecimiento y de impacto en la comunidad.
Los compromisos adquiridos por estos clubes incluyen explorar el crecimiento a través de Clubes Satélites, la búsqueda de nuevos socios, y la creación o fortalecimiento de clubes Rotaract e Interact. También se han comprometido a aportar a la Fundación Rotaria, y me complace anunciar que, gracias a estas visitas, más de 25 socios se han unido a la Sociedad Polio Plus, comprometiéndose a donar $100 anuales hasta erradicar la polio. Además, se han comprometido a divulgar y promover Rotary para que más personas conozcan nuestro maravilloso movimiento.
Finalmente, logramos crear la comunidad de WhatsApp Rotary Costa Rica, cuyo objetivo es fortalecer la comunicación en el país. También, junto a la Asistente de Membresía, María Elvira Chavarría, tuvimos una reunión inicial para formar un club de Expats en Atenas, Alajuela.
Reitero mi agradecimiento a todos los clubes por su calidez, sus atenciones y obsequios. Me hicieron sentir en casa y profundamente bien recibido. Los invito a seguir adelante, siendo irresistibles, para que más personas quieran sumarse a nuestra causa y que este siga siendo un año lleno de la Magia de Rotary.
Sigamos trabajando juntos para construir un mundo mejor, unidos en servicio, amistad y paz.

Sunday Letter: The Magic of Rotary in Costa Rica: A Visit of Service, Friendship, and Commitment
Dear Rotarians of District 4240,
I want to begin this letter by expressing my deepest gratitude to my Assistant Governors Antonio Sabatini, Gabriela Chávez Ulate, and Kitty Peralta, who excellently coordinated logistics, transportation, and hospitality during my recent visit to the clubs in Costa Rica. Thank you for your unconditional support and commitment to Rotary. I also deeply thank my hosts, José Luis Pacheco and Marianela Rojas, Gerardo Lorenzen and Aisha Baltodano, and Antonio Sabatini, for welcoming me into their homes and making me feel truly at home.
Visiting the Rotary clubs of Costa Rica was an enriching experience, full of energy and Rotary commitment. Each club visited has a unique spirit that I would like to highlight:
Alajuela welcomed me with the enthusiasm of its Interact Club and the desire to sponsor more youth clubs. They are determined to strengthen their Rotaract and grow as a club. We deeply regret the passing of their dear companion, Halef Schmitd, who dedicated much of his life to serving youth.
In Belén, I witnessed exceptional camaraderie and a strong bond among members, as well as a firm commitment to peace projects. This club is dedicated to supporting their Governor for a successful and impactful year.
Heredia stood out for its various projects, but above all, for its motivation to increase membership and continue growing.
In Cartago, the ancient capital of Costa Rica, I found a magical place full of history, with a new story to write: their Autism Center for Children. It’s a wonderful project that will change lives.
San Pedro impressed me with its fundraising initiatives and the projects in Tirrases, which are transforming the lives of hundreds of young people in a public school.
Garabito, known as the «Relax Club,» holds sunset meetings by the beach, where each member feels free to develop projects in various areas. It’s a vibrant, energetic club.
Limón, the little giant of the Caribbean, is a club with solid tradition and a strong desire to continue growing and achieving impactful projects.
San Juan del Murciélago was the club that fed me the most 🙂 and I was moved by their dedication to peace projects, which are changing the community toward a culture of peace.
La Guaria stood out as a club with tradition but also with great ongoing projects that promise to transform their surroundings.
Sabana, the youngest of the Costa Rican clubs, needs our support to grow and strengthen its projects. Its youth is eager to do more and more for their community.
San José, the oldest club in Costa Rica, is moving forward strongly, supported by former Rotaractors, and working on important water projects in various communities across the country.
San José Noreste stood out as an expert in projects with The Rotary Foundation, with initiatives from coast to coast and from border to border, showcasing the true Rotary spirit.
In Puntarenas, the pearl of the Pacific, I found a club rich in tradition, soon celebrating 80 years of existence. With a mix of young and older members, this club has great growth potential and community impact.
The commitments made by these clubs include exploring growth through Satellite Clubs, seeking new members, and creating or strengthening Rotaract and Interact clubs. They have also committed to contributing to The Rotary Foundation, and I am pleased to announce that, thanks to these visits, over 25 members have joined the Polio Plus Society, committing to donate $100 annually until polio is eradicated. Moreover, they have committed to promoting Rotary and ensuring more people know about our incredible movement.
Lastly, we successfully created the Rotary Costa Rica WhatsApp community, aimed at strengthening communication across the country. Alongside Membership Assistant María Elvira Chavarría, we also held an initial meeting to form an Expats Club in Atenas, Alajuela.
I reiterate my gratitude to all the clubs for their warmth, hospitality, and gifts. You made me feel at home and deeply welcomed. I invite you to keep moving forward, being irresistible, so more people will want to join our cause, and may this year continue to be filled with the Magic of Rotary.
Let us continue working together to build a better world, united in service, friendship, and peace.
