Carta de Domingo – UN AÑO LLENO DE MAGIA Y SERVICIO

Querida familia rotaria del Distrito 4240:
Hace más de tres años, viví uno de los momentos más memorables de mi vida rotaria: ser electo como Gobernador del Distrito 4240 por el voto directo de los clubes. Fue la primera vez que nuestro Distrito adoptaba este modelo de elección, y aunque en mi caso no hubo otro candidato, el ejercicio democrático fue claro, transparente y profundamente rotario. Luego vinieron dos elecciones más, y en la tercera –la elección de la Gobernación para Nicaragua– tampoco hubo contendientes. Aun así, cada proceso fue una reafirmación de que la decisión debe recaer siempre en los clubes, porque ellos son el corazón de Rotary. Este es, sin duda, el más puro y poderoso ejercicio democrático que podemos vivir como rotarios.
Ser notificado como Gobernador Propuesto no es solo una formalidad; es el punto de partida de una intensa, hermosa y transformadora travesía. Desde ese instante, comienzan las responsabilidades: asistir a las Conferencias Distritales de los años anteriores, donde eres presentado oficialmente, participar en las capacitaciones GNLS, GELS y finalmente, vivir la experiencia única de la Asamblea Internacional. En ese camino se van formando nuevas amistades, primero con los 13 Gobernadores de mi zona, y luego, en Orlando, con los Gobernadores de Rotary de todo el mundo. Allí, entendí que aunque venimos de contextos distintos, compartimos una misma pasión: servir.
Nuestro año de servicio comenzó con fuerza en los PELS que se realizaron en Panamá, Costa Rica y El Salvador. En cada país fuimos recibidos con cariño y entusiasmo por los rotarios que creen en la capacitación como herramienta de transformación. Me acompañaron tres mujeres extraordinarias: Yashiris Herrera, Carolina Goez y Enedelsy Escobar King, quienes con entrega y profesionalismo ayudaron a sembrar la semilla del liderazgo en cada asistente.
Pero si algo he confirmado durante este año es que el éxito de una Gobernación no es fruto del trabajo individual, sino del trabajo en equipo. A los Asistentes de Gobernador Vielka, Albert, María Gil, Kelman, Dave, Antonio, Kitty, Gabriela, José de la Cruz, María del Pilar, Hilda, Mauricio, José Roberto, Doris y Chambita: gracias por hacer posible la magia de Rotary en cada rincón de nuestros países. Su dedicación fue motor y brújula para los clubes que acompañaron.
A mi equipo distrital: Baselisa, Graciela, Yashiris, Carolina, Jessica, María Violeta, Víctor, Lizia, Amílcar, Alexei,Josefina, Gustavo, María Elvira, Myriam, Enedelsy, Aleyda, Odilia, John, Antonieta, Edanela, Ricardo… y tantos otros que aportaron desde su trinchera: gracias por hacer de este un año irresistible. Ustedes fueron energía, alegría, constancia y amor por Rotary.
A los presidentes de los clubes y a cada socia y socio que nos recibió con cariño, entusiasmo y ganas de transformar sus comunidades: gracias por recordarme que Rotary sí cambia vidas. Ustedes se comprometieron a crecer en membresía, a apoyar nuestra Fundación Rotaria, a fortalecer los programas juveniles y a mostrar la imagen de Rotary con orgullo y visión. Su trabajo es la columna vertebral de nuestro Distrito.
Hoy, a solo un día de cerrar este año rotario, me siento satisfecho y agradecido. Porque aunque los sueños sean grandes, solo se cumplen con el esfuerzo colectivo. Y yo he tenido el privilegio de contar con cada uno de ustedes.
Mañana regreso a mi querido Club Rotario de David. Vuelvo como uno más, no como uno menos. Porque ser socio es y seguirá siendo mi mayor orgullo. Vuelvo a servir, que es, al final de todo, mi verdadera misión.
Gracias. Gracias por confiar, por caminar, por creer. Los llevo en mi corazón rotario, hoy y siempre.

Sunday Letter – A YEAR FILLED WITH MAGIC AND SERVICE

Dear Rotary family of District 4240,
Over tree years ago, I experienced one of the most memorable moments of my Rotary life: being elected District Governor of District 4240 through a direct vote by the clubs. It was the first time our District adopted this model of election, and although I had no opponent, the democratic process was clear, transparent, and deeply Rotarian. Since then, we have held two more elections—most recently, the selection of the Governor for Nicaragua, which also had no competitor. Still, each process reaffirmed that the decision must always lie with the clubs, for they are the heart of Rotary. This is undoubtedly the purest and most powerful democratic exercise we can experience as Rotarians.
Being notified as the District Governor-Nominee is not just a formality; it is the starting point of an intense, beautiful, and transformative journey. From that moment, responsibilities begin: attending District Conferences of preceding years where you are officially introduced, participating in GNLS and GELS training, and finally experiencing the unforgettable International Assembly. Along the way, new friendships are formed—first with the 13 Governors from my zone, and later, in Orlando, with Governors from around the Rotary world. There I understood that although we come from different contexts, we share the same passion: to serve.
Our year of service began strongly with the PELS held in Panama, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. In each country, we were warmly welcomed by Rotarians who believe in training as a tool for transformation. I was accompanied by three extraordinary women: Yashiris Herrera, Carolina Goez, and Enedelsy Escobar King, who with dedication and professionalism helped plant the seeds of leadership in every attendee.
But if this year has taught me anything, it is that the success of a Governor’s term is not the result of individual work, but of teamwork. To the Assistant Governors Vielka, Albert, María Gil, Kelman, Dave, Antonio, Kitty, Gabriela, José de la Cruz, María del Pilar, Hilda, Mauricio, José Roberto, Doris, and Chambita: thank you for making the magic of Rotary possible in every corner of our countries. Your dedication was the engine and compass for the clubs you accompanied.
To my district team—Baselisa, Graciela, Yashiris, Carolina, Jessica, María Violeta, Víctor, Lizia, Amílcar, Alexei,Josefina, Gustavo, María Elvira, Myriam, Enedelsy, Aleyda, Odilia, John, Antonieta, Edanela, Ricardo—and so many others who contributed from their trench: thank you for making this an irresistible year. You brought energy, joy, consistency, and love for Rotary.
To the club presidents and every member who welcomed us with affection, enthusiasm, and a desire to transform their communities: thank you for reminding me that Rotary truly changes lives. You committed to growing membership, supporting our Rotary Foundation, strengthening youth programs, and proudly showcasing Rotary’s public image to attract members and donors. Your work is the backbone of our District.
Today, with just one day left in this Rotary year, I feel fulfilled and grateful. Because even the greatest dreams can only be achieved through collective effort. And I had the privilege of counting on each of you.
Tomorrow, I return to my beloved Rotary Club of David. I return as one of many—not less than anyone. Because being a Rotarian is, and always will be, my greatest pride. I return to serve, which is, after all, my true mission.
Thank you. Thank you for trusting, walking, and believing. I carry you in my Rotary heart, now and always.
