Carta de Domingo : Apostar por la Juventud es Apostar por el Futuro de Rotary
Cada generación de rotarios ha tenido una misión. La nuestra, si realmente queremos que Rotary siga siendo una fuerza transformadora en el mundo, es apostar con decisión por la juventud. Aunque en varias ocasiones hemos reflexionado sobre este tema, hoy insisto con convicción renovada: nuestros programas juveniles no son un complemento, son una prioridad estratégica.
En la reciente Asamblea Distrital del 4240 dimos un paso importante con la aprobación del Reglamento de RYLA. Esto nos abre la puerta a ampliar este programa transformador, dándole acceso a más jóvenes que necesitan espacios donde crecer en liderazgo, valores y compromiso social. Pero no podemos quedarnos ahí.
Fundar y fortalecer clubes Interact y Rotaract
Un colegio sin un Club Interact es una oportunidad perdida. Es ahí donde Rotary puede sembrar las primeras semillas del servicio. Invito a los clubes rotarios a buscar alianzas con colegios públicos y privados, especialmente aquellos que tienen programas de voluntariado o liderazgo estudiantil, para formar nuevos clubes Interact. Estos espacios permiten que los jóvenes desarrollen habilidades, construyan amistades y comiencen a ver el servicio como una forma de vida.
Del mismo modo, las universidades son el terreno fértil ideal para fundar Clubes Rotaract. Estudiantes que ya tienen vocación de liderazgo, que buscan pertenecer a una comunidad con propósito, encontrarán en Rotaract una plataforma para conectar local y globalmente, mientras se preparan para ser los líderes del mañana.
Intercambios juveniles: el mundo como aula
Nuestro compromiso debe extenderse también a garantizar que en todos los países de nuestro Distrito existan los programas de Intercambio de Jóvenes y el Intercambio de Nuevas Generaciones. Estas experiencias no solo transforman la vida del joven que viaja, sino también de las familias anfitrionas y las comunidades que reciben. Es Rotary creando paz y entendimiento entre culturas, un estudiante a la vez.
RYLA: más que un campamento
Con un reglamento aprobado, el RYLA debe crecer. Cada club rotario puede identificar jóvenes líderes en su comunidad y patrocinarlos. No limitemos este programa a unos pocos afortunados. Usemos las redes sociales, los clubes Interact y Rotaract, las iglesias, las ONGs juveniles y hasta las alcaldías para identificar talento joven que se beneficiaría de esta experiencia única.
El futuro de Rotary no se construye sólo con estrategias de membresía. Se construye sembrando valores en los jóvenes de hoy. Pongamos nuestra energía, creatividad y voluntad de servicio al servicio de la juventud. Solo así garantizaremos que la rueda de Rotary siga girando, año tras año, generación tras generación.

Sunday Letter : Investing in Youth is Investing in the Future of Rotary
Every generation of Rotarians has had a mission. Ours—if we truly want Rotary to remain a transformative force in the world—is to boldly invest in youth. Although we’ve touched on this topic before, I return to it today with renewed conviction: our youth programs are not a complement—they are a strategic priority.
At the recent District 4240 Assembly, we took an important step by approving the RYLA Regulations. This opens the door to expand this life-changing program, giving more young people access to opportunities that help them grow in leadership, values, and social commitment. But we cannot stop there.
Building and Strengthening Interact and Rotaract Clubs
A school without an Interact Club is a missed opportunity. This is where Rotary can plant its first seeds of service. I encourage Rotary clubs to build partnerships with public and private schools, especially those with existing volunteer or leadership programs, to form new Interact Clubs. These clubs help young people develop skills, build friendships, and begin to see service as a way of life.
Likewise, universities are fertile ground for founding Rotaract Clubs. Students who are already natural leaders and who seek to belong to a community with purpose will find in Rotaract a platform to connect locally and globally, all while preparing to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Youth Exchanges: The World as a Classroom
Our commitment must also extend to ensuring that every country in our District offers both the Youth Exchange Program and the New Generations Exchange Program. These experiences don’t just change the lives of the students who travel—they transform host families and entire communities. This is Rotary creating peace and understanding across cultures, one student at a time.
RYLA: More Than Just a Camp
With the newly approved regulations, RYLA must grow. Every Rotary club can identify young leaders in their community and sponsor them. Let’s not limit this program to just a lucky few. Use social media, Interact and Rotaract networks, churches, youth-focused NGOs, and even local governments to identify promising young people who would benefit from this unique experience.
The future of Rotary is not built only through membership strategies. It is built by planting the values of service in today’s youth. Let us put our energy, creativity, and commitment to service into action for young people. Only then can we ensure that Rotary’s wheel keeps turning—year after year, generation after generation.
